Carnival of Patras 25-26-27 February 2012

PatrasOn the occasion of the Carnival of Patras celebrations, the Consular Corps in Greece organized,
in cooperation with the Honorary Consuls in Patras, an exclusive three day program consisting of official meetings,
sightseeing, attendance to Carnival parades, private masque parties and wine tasting.

The Mayor of Patras Mr. I. Dimaras cordially welcomed the participants of the CCG group at the Town Hall of the city of Patras.
During the meeting, the Mayor offered gifts and an illustrated book of Patras to each member.
The Municipal Ball, which was organized under the courtesy of the Mayor of Patras, took place at the Akti Dymaion theatre,
where a high quality live music offered a great atmosphere. The foreign diplomats applied the ball masque dress code and fully enjoyed the event.

The guided visit to the famous Achaia Claus winery, close to Patras, was considered quite an experience.
It is highly recommended, as this is a museum of wine preserving the winemaking culture and tradition of Greece.
The delegation had the opportunity to taste the famous Mavrodafni, a sweet red wine which is used as an excellent aperitif
and its members were requested to assist the winery in supporting their exports to the countries represented.

On Kathara Deftera (Ash Monday) the Hon. Consul of Sweden and Norway in Patra Mr. Costas Christopoulos
extended his hospitality at his holiday house with ample wine and lent specialties. Mr. Christopoulos,
together with the Hon. Consul of Korea Mr. Spyros Philipakis, the Hon. Consul of France Mrs. Ch. Deftereou
and the Hon. Consul of Germany Mr. A. Papadopoulos organized a private ball masque party
to honor the Consular Corps visit. Present were Honorary Consuls in Patras together with their esteemed guests.

During the stay the Corps also visited some local restaurants and tavernas, enjoying exceptional food and delicious seafood specialties.

The participants highly appreciated the opportunity to assist in one of the best Carnivals in Greece and probably in Europe, to develop bonds of friendship among other diplomats and Honorary Consuls and to experience deeply the Filoxenía, the famous Greek hospitality.
