Moscow State Academic Dance Theater GZHEL “Eternal Russia” 16th and 17th October 2010
The famous Moscow State Academic Theater Dance Gzhel, cαme to Greece for two (only!) performances, dedicated to the 2500th anniversary of the Battle of Marathon, one of the most significant moments in the Greek and European history.
The event was under the auspices of the Consular Corps in Greece with the cooperation of the Marathon Friends International Association.
More than 40 talented dancers in more than 1000 rich handmade costumes –inspired by Russian art objects and made by the famous sewing workshops of the Bolsoi and Stanislavsky theatres– under the direction of the company’s founder, artistic director and choreographer Vladimir Zakharov, brought to Athens rare treasures of the Russian dance tradition.
Like a whirlwind, the dancers move with absolute precision to the sounds of the traditional folk songs. Their leaps are performed with grace, ingenuity and wit, while they fly around the stage with spectacular speed! Their faces express more than ten feelings when dancing.
The event took place at the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron Moussikis).

A few words on the Yacht Club of Greece... The Yacht Club was established in 1933 by a group of prominent Athenians under the name of YACHT CLUB OF ATHENS. The aims of the Club are the promotion of sailing in Greece, the training and recreation of its members in yachting activities and the promotion of nautical tourism. The Club was renamed in 1936 as YACHT CLUB OF GREECE and between 1940 and 1973 assumed the title of ROYAL YACHT CLUB OF GREECE as King George II and subsequently King Paul and King Constantine graciously accepted the title of the " Admiral of the Club " being very keen yachtsmen themselves.
Nowadays the club is under the auspices of the President of the Republic.
Its premises lie in Piraeus Peninsula in the historical military Port of Ancient Athens called MOUNICHIA. This picturesque area even in our times retains its ancient name. The contemporary colloquial name is MICROLIMANO which means " the small port".
